Diaries of Hope is a new five-movement work by renowned Polish film composer, Zbigniew Preisner, inspired by the diaries and poems of Polish children who were victims of the Holocaust. The cast of players includes Lisa Gerrard in the principal vocal role and boy soprano Archie Buchanan in settings of two chamber songs, with the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Adam Klocek.
Best known for her collaboration with Brendan Perry in the band Dead Can Dance, and for her vocals on several major film scores, this is the first time Lisa Gerrard has collaborated with Preisner.
Zbigniew Preisner (b. 1955) is Poland's leading film music composer and acknowledged, internationally, as one of the most outstanding of his generation. For many years Preisner enjoyed a close collaboration with the director Krzysztof Kieslowski and his scriptwriter Krzysztof Piesiewicz. His scores for Kieslowski's films - Dekalog, The Double Life Of Veronique, Three Colours Blue, Three Colours White and Three Colours Red - have brought him international acclaim.
