Bart Vincent was one of the key figures of the Ghent band Thou between 1998 and 2008.
After five LPs (including two with producer John Parish), the band called it a day and Bart spent many years as a producer for Kris Dane, Kapitan Korsakov and Wardrobe, among others, and as a sound mixer for The Van Jets and Melanie de Biasio.
In 2020, during the height of the Covid period, the debut album Goodnight Honeybun would normally have been released under the name Vincent Starwaver, but it never got an official release, although it is now being released as a diptych with the brand new album Godspeed.
In theory, Vincent Starwaver is a solo project, but the musicians have had a certain influence on the elaboration of the songs on both LPs. They are not the least: Alan Gevaert (dEUS, Chantal Acda) on bass, Steve Slingeneyer (One Man Party, WWWater, ex-Soulwax) on drums and Serge Hertoge (Lize Accoe, Sundahl) on guitar.
Godspeed also features the string quartet Echo Collective, for which Vincent wrote the arrangements together with Hertoge. Pascal Paulus (BÀÀN, Melanier De Biasio, Paulson) played the keyboard parts on the record, but live the band will be accompanied by Naomi Sijmons (Reena Riot) on keys and guitar.
Just like on the first album,
Godspeed is also about the grieving process. The songs are about forced farewells, about a loss that eats away at your heart like a corrosive acid. A form of loneliness that weighs on your shoulders like a block of granite. How do you deal with emptiness and distance, with powerlessness and being torn? But Vincent has also made a mental journey, so that hope is no longer an unattainable destination.
