De Brassers
De Brassers is a Belgian post-punk band from Hamont, in the north of Belgian Limburg.
De Brassers made their debut in the late 1970s, inspired by British punk bands such as The Damned and The Clash and PIL. None of the members had much musical experience, but they managed to put together a band. The line-up consisted of the brothers Eric (drums) and Marc Poukens (vocals), Ben Dekkers (keyboards), Willy Dirkx (guitar) and Marc Haesendonckx (bass).
According to Willy Dirkx, they owe their name to the swear word "brassers", which they were often called in their café in Hamont. The musicians decided to use the name as a nickname, because it had "something cheerful, unlike our music", according to Dirkx.
