Iskander Moens is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter whose single ‘Saturday Silence’ got picked up by Studio Brussel, got to #3 in de Afrekening and managed to easily collect over half a million streams. Not bad for the 22 year olds first ever release. Despite his young age Iskander already completed an extensive musical journey. As a young kid, he had the opportunity to tour across Europe with the choral ensemble Collegium Vocale (conducted by Philippe Herreweghe). He composed polyphonic pieces for the men's choir Dionysos Now! and was also active in various projects outside the classical world, including the tuxedorock trio HYPER! and the fusion band Shikata Ga Nai. He pursued classical piano education at MUDA and obtained his master's degree in music production at KASK last summer.
Over the past two years, he has been actively involved as a producer, session musician, and songwriter, collaborating with artists such as Mooneye, The Starlings, Camille, Lea Roux, and Yves Paquet. Simultaneously, Iskander has been quietly making strides as a solo artist under his alter-ego "Iskander Moon." Drawn to the allure of being absorbed by a large anonymous city, he spent extended periods in places like New York, Berlin, Boston, and Florence. During his time there, Iskander immersed himself fully in the local music scene, performing in numerous singer-songwriter cafes where he impressed the audience with his warm tenor voice. During those stays, he effortlessly composed a collection of sparkling folk-pop songs. "People who have already seen me perform here in Belgium probably associate me with more musically complex projects, but I have always primarily seen myself as a songwriter and storyteller. I love playing a piece like Prelude in C Minor by Bach, but I can equally enjoy a great Taylor Swift song."
As Iskander Moon, he aims to present simple, heartfelt pop songs with compelling lyrics, sung from behind his ivory keys. Think Bon Iver, James Bay, and Tom Odell.
