Description

This debut by the critically-acclaimed Portico Quartet was Time Out/London's "Jazz, Folk and World Music Album of the Year" when it was released in Europe in 2007, and was subsequently nominated for England's coveted Mercury Prize in 2008. Newly remixed by John Leckie (Radiohead, Stone Roses, producer of Portico Quartet's subsequent ISLA),

Likened to Steve Reich & Philip Glass, its resonant, trance-like sound is like music from the future."A phenomenon in the making." The Independent

In 2007 Portico Quartet moved from busking  in London to a recording studio and, with the remains of the money from their studentgrants  , created their first album, 'Knee Deep In The North Sea' .

This was a turning point for the band, the album attracted attention from DJs, bloggers and critics of every stripe, and was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Music Prize.
