Fred Verhaegen, known for Mambo Chillum and Durango, returns with his alter ego Kaai Man. Together with his band, the Oeverlozen, he brings Gaandeweg, an intimate second album with nine songs that go straight to the heart. Gaandeweg contains a collection of profound songs, each telling its own story about love, vulnerability and the search for trust and connection. The meditative ‘Wind’, the introspective ‘Tot de zon opkomt’ and the poignant ‘Waanzin’ - a moving reflection on the struggle with addiction - invite reflection. ‘Melk en Blood’ touches on the fragile dynamic between fathers and daughters, while “Halfstok” pays an intimate ode to loss.
Other gems like ‘Pluk de dag’, ‘Marylou’, ‘Liefde Zonder Eind’ and ‘We Blijven Stil' reinforce the album's rich theme. One of the most beautiful passages comes from Liefde Zonder Eind’: ‘Somewhere deep inside me, In the silence of being, In the light that shines eternally, Lives love without end.’
'Gaandeweg' was analogue recorded and produced by Koen Gisen, a master at capturing authenticity. With his old-school approach and raw, honest recording process, he manages to capture the essence of the music.
