Tristwch y Fenywod sing liturgies of mud-encrusted bog bodies under black light, enchanted by nighttime landscapes shimmering in the moonlight. Exhumed from the depths of Leeds' experimental underground, the Welsh-speaking gothic avant-rock trio consists of Gwretsien Ferch Lisbeth (Guttersnipe, The Ephemeron Loop), Leila Lygad (Hawthonn), and Sidni Sarffwraig (Slaylor Moon, The Courtneys). Formed in 2022, Tristwch y Fenywod (The Sadness of Women) records exclusively in Welsh, conjuring an eerie, subterranean, otherworldly folk music played on double zither, electronic drums, and bass guitar. With soaring, siren-like vocals coiling around Welsh consonants, accompanied by stark, martial rhythms and swirling, claw-plucked strings, Tristwch y Fenywod feels like an early 4AD recording dredged from the waters of an Anglesey marsh.
